Future orthopaedic surgeons conference 2023

14th January 2023

Join the twelfth edition of Future Orthopaedic Surgeons Conference (FOSC), the international Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery conference, for a full day of learning with academic lectures covering four key topics, poster presentations, and cutting-edge practical workshops focused on the latest updates on orthopaedic training aimed at junior doctors and medical students. Predominantly an in-person event, virtual participants will be welcomed for the morning talks.

In the morning, the academic lectures will consist of short presentations covering four main topics: Orthopaedic subspecialties and what they involve, diversity in orthopaedics, career options in orthopaedics and application pathways, including CV tips. The talks will be followed by a lunch, during which applicants for the Orthopaedics Section FOSC Prize for Research will present their research works via poster and a panel of experts will review and critically appraise each project. For more information about the prize, scroll down or apply by clicking here.

In the afternoon, a circuit of small-group practical workshops will focus on the core skills required as an orthopaedic surgeon: Intramedullary nailing, dynamic hip screw, open-reduction internal fixation and external fixation. These workshops will provide a unique opportunity for attendees to get hands-on experience and guidance on different surgical techniques. Please note that the afternoon workshops will not be available to watch for virtual participants.

This new edition of FOSC will:

  • Increase awareness of the different orthopaedic subspecialties
  • Tackle the changing face of orthopaedics and promote diversity among trainees applying for core and speciality training
  • Describe the range of careers paths available to orthopaedic surgeons including portfolio careers and academic orthopaedics
  • Improve the understanding of core and speciality training selection pathways and how to improve one’s CV to increase the chances of a successful job application
  • Develop the presentation and critical appraisal skills of participants
